Our Crook County Sheriff's Search and Rescue K-9 team provide highly skilled, professional K-9 Search and Rescue assistance to Law Enforcement, Fire/Rescue, Mutual Aid, and other Responsible Agencies for strategic and tactical deployment, to assist with the rescue/recovery of missing/lost persons and/or evidence recovery.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Search Dog
The canines involved in search and rescue missions are heroic dogs that optimize their natural abilities to help distressed people.
The main types of work that search dogs can do. These are generally categorized as airscent (or wilderness), trailing, cadaver (land and water), and disaster.
Meet the K-9 Team

K-9 Blue & Handler Mollie
​
Blue was an 11 year old German Shepherd, National certified tracking dog with North American Police Working Dog Association. Blue loved to find people, be in the woods and lives to swim.
We recently lost him to cancer, but his dedication and talent pathed the way for future handlers and K-9 within CCSSAR. Blue will be missed. Thank you for your service!

K-9 Esther & Handler Eugene

K-9 Ezekiel & Handler Eugene

Born May 27, 2022.
OSSA Wilderness Trailing Certified.
Loves camping, coffee and getting the Zumiez on the bed.

K-9 Brody & Handler Eugene

Born May 27th, 2022.

OSSA Urban Trailing Certified.

Loves long walks on the beach, snoozing on the couch, and causing a ruckus.

K-9 Josie & Handler Rose
​
K9 Josie and her handler Rose are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association as a human remains recovery team. They have been deploying with CCSSAR since 2019 on missing persons cases, law enforcement training demos, and assisting in community safety programs. Their work has taken them as far away as Arizona, working for different agencies upon request.
Because of her life experiences, K9 Josie gets noticeably excited when she sees helicopters, uniforms, and freeze-dried chicken hearts.

K-9 Rose & Handler Karen

Rose has been certified trough National Search Dogs Alliance, Oregon State Sheriffs Association and Crook County Sheriff.
​
Rose is also trained in live find searches but not yet certified.
​
Our specialty is working cold cases with approval from, and request from the Law Enforcement agency conducting the search.

K-9 Lacy & Handler Sunnie

K9 Lacy is a 9 year old Australian Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dog certified in HRD and Live Find Airscent.

K9 Hunter and Handler Jillian

Breed: Belgian Tervuren
D.O.B: July 24, 2015
Hunter has been certified in various national organizations and disciplines including: Search & Rescue Dogs of the United States (Oct 2016, Land HRD), International Police Working Dog Association (Sept 2018, Land Cadaver & Crime Scene Cadaver), National Search Dog Alliance (July 2020, Land HRD), National Search Dog Alliance (Sept 2021, Water HRD [boat & shoreline]), National Search Dog Alliance (Wilderness Area II [livefind]), Oregon State Sheriff's Association (Feb 2024, Land HRD).
He lives on a sheep & goat farm and enjoys helping pen up the livestock and making the rounds during chore time. His favorite reward for working is freeze dried dog treats (lamb or beef). He enjoys doing PR work, especially doing Hug-A-Tree outreach with the young kids. ​​
